Organic Chemistry Panic

Organic Chemistry is a Difficult Subject
If you are struggling in the course, it may not be that you are 'not smart enough' or that you have a 'bad teacher'. While there are many different factors that play a role in making this topic difficult, the truth of the matter is, this subject IS difficult.

However, going into organic chemistry thinking 'this is so difficult, I'm never going to pass' will trigger a panic response before you even give yourself a chance. In this mode of panic you will be so distracted by your panic and fear that you will not be able to sit down and focus. This in turn leads to an inability to study, which in turns leads to a decrease in what you can understand from your course.

And this leads to more panic

So the very first step you must take in order to be able to learn and understand organic chemistry is to RELAX.

How Can I Relax When I Am So Nervous?
Sometimes you need to walk away, take part in something that will temporarily distract you and put your mind at ease. Or perhaps you can try the exact opposite. Engage in a physically exerting exercise like going for a jog or riding your bike, and then sit down to study.

The Relaxed Study Mindset
Now that you are studying, don't worry about ALL of organic chemistry. There is no way to learn it all in one sitting. Instead focus on the single topic or concept at hand.

Don't worry about your quiz or exam, and definitely don't think about your grades or GPA.

Just focus on the topic at hand

When I used to study organic chemistry, especially in preparation for an exam I use to tell myself the following:

"For now I will assume that I know nothing. This means that I will score a zero on my next exam. Let's see if I can master this one topic and score 10 points."

Using this tactic I would relax long enough to study a single topic and ensure that I fully mastered the material.

For the next topic I told myself "I am looking at 10 points on my upcoming exam, let's see if I can master one more topic to score another 10 points."

And so I would put myself heart and soul into understanding this additional topic.

I continued this way for an entire week leading up to the exam. Each topic would build upon the previous topic, however, I knew that I had done my best to review.

How Do You Become a Systems Analyst or Administrator

Computer systems are designed by people who have a broad set of information technology skills and knowledge. They have an understanding of hardware, software, networking and business operations. The designers of information systems apply all of their knowledge and combine hardware and software components in such a way that produces a system that is the most effective and efficient. The information technologists who create and integrate information systems for businesses and organizations are known as computer systems analysts and administrators.

Nearly every organization's requirements are different. "Out-of-the-box" solutions generally fall short of meeting an organization's needs because requirements vary from business to business. The computer systems analyst actually documents business requirements and specifies what is needed for a company to meet its information processing requirements. The computer systems analysts can document an existing system, design a new system or modify existing ones. New systems or components are brought together by analysts and put to use in a manner that produces the desired outcomes.

Computer systems analysts may use sophisticated modeling techniques to document how existing information systems function. Data flow diagrams and flowcharting are other techniques (such as observation) that may also be used by analysts.

Analysts look at source documents, transactions, raw data and how they operate together to get information to decision makers. The computer systems analyst is interested in getting the information to the person who needs it, when he or she needs it and in the form that it is needed. The systems that are ultimately designed by the analyst are supportive of documented organizational goals.

Systems analysts may also be referred to as system designers. They either work as system designers or may do both the analysis and design work. Some analysts may work with end users in testing a new system to make sure that the requirements have been met. Analysts and designers may also prepare documentation and teach employees how to use the new system. Analysts are frequently involved in acceptance testing which validates the new system or system's ability to meet stated goals.

Computer systems analysts must be excellent communicators as the work they do cuts across organizational lines. They must be comfortable in asking questions and discerning answers. Analysts document "what is" and determine solutions to problems.

There are a number of other titles for analysts. Among them are quality assurance analyst and programmer analyst. Computer systems analysts must be logical and enjoy investigating programs in a step-by-step manner. They must be detail oriented and be able to exercise good judgment. Depending upon the specific requirements of the job, industry, and company, an analyst's salary can exceed $100,000. Jobs for analysts are expected to grow by more than 20% between now and 2020. New demands for analysts will include knowledge of mobile and cloud-based information systems.

A four-year degree is usually required to become a computer systems analyst. Most positions require a bachelor's degree in computer or management information systems. Analysts need to have an understanding of the industry in which they desire to work. For example, to work as an analyst in an agriculture sector a person would likely want to have an active interest in agriculture or some work experience in the field.

Summary:
Computer systems analysts study information system requirements, work flow and how organizations are attempting to use information technology to support decision- making. Analysts document what is happening and what is required for a system to be successful. Computer systems analysts have a broad base of skills and knowledge that is backed up with a four-year degree in information technology. Career opportunities for a computer systems analyst are extensive.

Reasons to Attend a College Preparatory School

College planning needs to begin before a pupil enters high school. Enrolling in a college preparatory school is a smart and sensible way to prepare students for the many challenges that will come once their college days arrive. The right academic institution needs to take into consideration the values and interests of a student, as well as the individual's future career plans.

Attending a college preparatory school (also sometimes referred to as college prep) will help a student to better prepare for the type of workload that they will encounter in a post- secondary institution. It will also assist the person in achieving better academic standing when the time comes for admissions officers to assess them. The options for those interested in prep courses for college or university are many and are worth exploring.

Taking classes at an educational facility that prepares you for post-secondary learning can make a difference because it has the ability to increase your confidence. The classes teach strategies for taking tests that are specifically geared to the standardized test that the students will be taking. These strategies can increase the pupil's test scores by 100 points, or in some cases even more!

Students increase their ability to do well on the test because they have many weeks and months to prepare for the writing of it. This reduces the pre-test jitters they may be feeling and makes cramming less likely. All of this can equal more confidence and feelings of competence about what they are doing.

When it comes to undergraduate studies, you will have a shot at better post-secondary facilities if you attend a college preparatory school first. Prep courses that serve to improve the ACT or SAT scores of students make it possible for them to apply to elite and highly selective institutions, such as Ivy League schools.

If you would like to go to Harvard, Princeton or Yale, college prep courses can do you a tremendous amount of good. The reason for this is that the big universities are aware that classes taken at college prep institutions are more difficult to pass because they are similar in nature to the workloads found in universities.

Having advanced studies or higher board scores can make pupils more desirable to the facilities that offer tertiary education. This can be beneficial in terms of financial aid opportunities. Education is expensive and getting bursaries, grants, scholarships, loans and other forms of gift aid can ease some of the burden associated with going beyond your secondary education.

When better financial aid is within reach, it makes more students who come from low income middle class families able to continue their studies. This is particularly the case if a person is aiming high and wants to attend a prestigious school. These academic institutions often boost the highest tuition rates around.

The Study of Accounting and the CPA Board Exam

Accounting Horror Stories

As a student, I never like Accounting! My inclination was towards the study of the arts and design. I was quite good in painting as a child, that I thought my brain cells were in my fingers, and not on my head! I had this weird notion, that the veins in my hands were throbbing brain cells, waiting for me to do another painting! As I got older, these brain cells must have gone into my limbs and mouth. I pursued the college guilds on dramatics, dance, oratory and debate! My leanings were towards the arts, and it was an undeniable truth that I will pursue it as my life destiny!

But horrors! My dad, who was from the old school, would hear none of it! To him, the study of the Arts was not an option. A real course in the College of Commerce, was nothing but the study of Accountancy, I was told in no uncertain terms to take it up, or else he will cut the financial support for my studies! When I was told that, my mind just went blank! I knew how I fared in my Math subjects since grade school, It ranged from a pitiable, 75% to a respectable, 85%. The latter grade was achieved by sweating blood in studying all the formulas and mathematical equations. It was the result of superhuman efforts, incomprehensible for a kid of 16. You may call it an extraordinary feat; a far cry from what is real and natural - especially for a girl whose brains were snugly situated in the veins of her hands!

The basics of accounting were relatively easy. It was a breeze, and I got good grades to make me eligible for college scholarship. The major subjects were a different story though. The nuns in the school would always find me sick in the clinic whenever we have Cost Accounting; and would see me stuck in the restroom for the rest of the day whenever we have Auditing Problems. The Advance Accounting subject was so out-of-this-world that it left me with fainting spells and severe head pains!. The nuns were in disbelief! How can I have these fainting attacks near smack the goodies of the school canteen? My love-hate relationship with Accounting during college days were epic. Until now, I am still in a quandary on how I managed to graduate, with Accountancy as my major course.

After graduation, I worked in a manufacturing and auditing firm. I savored all that the world has to offer. I found out that the real world was totally different from the academe. How you were judge by peers and bosses was an altogether different experience. I found out that what counted in the real world were as follows:

In Accounting, you should not only be able to think accurately but swiftly as well. There is no use of having a perfect report when it is no longer needed by management. Survival techniques in the corporate arena, would include having to balance out accuracy with timeliness.

It is not always the brightest nor the most awarded student who gets ahead fast. In the corporate world. It is those that can present themselves best and who are adept in the use of social skills that usually gets promoted.

The tough subjects in college, suddenly becomes easy when applied at work. You often wonder why this was a hard thing to understand in school but easy to apply in the workplace.

The Review for the CPA Board Exams

After working for one year, I suddenly realized that there was need for me to take the board exam soon, lest I forget all about it.. Besides, there was nothing like having a CPA tag attached to one's name. I dreamed of it in earnest. and relentlessly pursued it, once my decision on becoming a CPA was made. I reviewed in one of the top CPA review centers in the city, and studied mightily like I have never done before. I realized while taking the review, that I did not know anything! I was starting from scratch with barely a few things that I remembered from college. This was not entirely the fault of the school, but mine since I did not take my studies seriously.

To the review school's credit, they have top-notched reviewers which enlightened me on the intricacies of the accounting subject. I appreciated the study of accounting more in the review center than in the academe. The reviewers were not only intelligent but witty as well. It made studying fun and less of a burden. My dad, who did not really believe that I can tackle the board, told me to take it easy. He said in jest- that I need not be ashamed If I fail; and that he will understand! That challenged me more, since no one really believe me, except myself!

Six months after (that is how long it took to release the results then), my dad came home early and told me that he got congratulated by everybody. since I passed the board. He simply can not believed it. and bought several newspapers, to check if my name was really there! Having my name in the newspaper was not enough, because the following morning, he drove straight to the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) to verify.. He was so happy with this turn of events, that he bought me a brand new car as a gift!

Recapitulation

The study of Accounting is not easy. It takes patience and perseverance to be able to do it. As I have imparted with my students, Accounting is not an enemy that has to be vanquish, but a lover that has to be wooed and aspire for. The road may be tough,. but the path is not littered with bricks and mortars. It is strewn with flowers and lovely scenery.

New Government Accounting System In The Philippines

Introduction

Accounting is an effective tool of management in evaluating the performance of the different agencies of government. The performance of the public managers would depend at most, on financial reports generated by the use of accounting systems.

Cognizant of this need, a new accounting system needs to be developed that would help the different agencies to hit on financial targets, and at the same time be understood by all users of financial reports.

With this new development, the Commission on Audit (COA), under the new 1987 Constitution, promulgated the New Government Accounting System in the Philippines (NGAs) for use by all government agencies.

The shift to NGAs was made in response to the following need:

1. Adoption of an accounting system that is in conformity with the International Accounting Standards.

2. Computerization of the accounting systems to generate reports that will be easy to understand by the general public.

3. Preparation of regular and routinary financial reports.

4. The use of the generated financial reports as tools of management in decision making.

Government Accounting - Defined

Under Section 109, of the Presidential Decree (PD) no. 1445, defines Government Accounting as one that encompasses the process of analyzing, classifying, summarizing and communicating all transactions that are involved in the receipt and disbursement of all government funds and properties, and interpreting the results thereof. In pursuant to this definition, objectives were set to cover several areas in government operations.

Objectives of Government Accounting

1. To produce relevant financial information about past and present transactions of government.

2. To serve as basis for decision making for future operations

3. To serve as the control mechanism for the receipt, disposition and utilization of government funds and properties

4. To come up with financial reports pertaining to the results of operations of various government agencies that are for dissemination to the public.

Summation

The need for timely preparation of financial reports in government is necessary to evaluate the performance of the different agencies of government. The result of the reports would indicate the areas that may still need improvement, as well as come up with the budgetary requirements for these agencies if needed.

Public officers are managers of funds, that are entrusted to them by the national government. The financial reports would clearly show if the agencies are achieving what is mandated of them. These reports would also show the extent in the use of agency assets and resources, as well as the need for additional infusion of funds if required

The accounting data would show how the funds of government were used. This would also reveal the inflow and outflow of funds and the need for stiffer fund management and control, if necessary.

On Accounting Responsibility

This fiscal responsibility emanates from the Constitution and its governing laws, rules and promulgation. The mandate as prescribed under the said Constitution of the Philippines calls for the keeping of the general accounts, as well as the promulgation and submission of financial reports that would cover the operations of government.

The government officers that are mandated to discharge the above-stated Accounting responsibilities are the Commission on Audit (COA), the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Bureau of Treasury (BTr) - to discharge the functions of government in consonance with its commitment to all Filipinos.
